Import and export text

Import text

  • Choose File > Place.
  • Select the text file you want to import, and click Place.
  • Click OK:

Export text to a text file

  • Using a type tool, select the text you want to export.
  • Choose File > Export.
  • In the Export dialog box, select a location for the file and enter a filename.
  • Choose Text Format (TXT) as the file format.
  • Enter the name of the new text file in the name box, and click Save
  • Choose a platform and encoding method, and click Export.

Text tool

  • Click on the text tool
  • Click and drag on to the artboard
  • Type the text(paragraph text), or
  • Click on the text tool and just click on the artboard
  • Type the text

Area type tool: –

This text tool lets you type the text inside the path

  • Draw a path
  • Click on area type tool
  • Click on the path segment
  • Type the text

Create rows and columns of text

  • Select an area type object.
  • Choose Type > Area Type Options.
  • Define Rows and Columns sections of the dialog
  • Click on ok

Fit a headline across the full width of a type area

  • Select a type tool, and click in the paragraph you want to fit across the type area.
  • Choose Type > Fit Headline.

Thread text/Remove or break threads

  • Choose Type > Threaded Text > Create.
  • Choose Type > Threaded Text > Remove

Path type tool: –

This tool lets you type the text on the path.

  • Draw a path with pen tool or
  • Click on the path type tool
  • Click on the path segment
  • Type the text
  • It will type on to the path

Vertical type tool: –

This tool lets you type the text vertically

  • Click on a vertical tool
  • Click and drag on the artboard
  • Type the text

Vertical area type tool: –

This tool lets you type vertical text inside the path

  • Click on vertical area type tool
  • Click on the path segment
  • Type the text

Vertical path type tool: –

This tool lets you type the text on the path vertically

  • Draw a path, Click on the vertical path type tool
  • Click on the path segment
  • Type the text

Character: –

  • Window > type > character (Ctrl + T)
  • You can select font size define leading, tracking, Kerning, etc.
  • Font —– Arial, impact, etc.

Font size: –

  • Define the font size eg 2px ,24px , etc

Leading: –

  • Define the leading (Distance between lines)

Tracking: –

  • Define the tracking (Distance between character)

Kerning: –

  • Define the kerning (Distance between character)

Vertical/ Horizontal scale: –

Scale text vertically

(it will increase the height of the text)

Scale text Horizontally

(it will increase the breadth of the text)

 

Paragraph: –

  • Window > Paragraph (Ctrl+M)

Alignment

  • Left alignment (Ctrl+SHIFT+L)
  • Center alignment (Ctrl+SHIFT_C)
  • Right alignment (Ctrl+SHIFT_R)
  • Justify (Ctrl+SHIFT_J)

  • Draw a perfect circle (stroke > black; fill > none)
  • Copy the circle (Ctrl+c)
  • Click on the path type tool
  • Click on the path segment
  • Type the text
  • Press Ctrl+m (paragraph)
  • Align – center (Ctrl+shift+c)
  • Click and drag to required position through (I)—icon
  • Press Ctrl+t (character)
  • Baseline shift (negative value),(-20 -25 -30)
  • Click on selection tool and paste the copied circle.
  • Edit >paste in front (Ctrl+f)
  • Click on path type tool
  • Type the text at the top of the circle
  • Baseline shift (positive value)
  • Again, paste in front (Ctrl+f)
  • Resize the circle (outside the text)
  • Again, paste in front (Ctrl+f)
  • Keep the computer symbol at the center of the circle
  • Click on text tool (t)
  • Press (Ctrl +t)
  • Font — windings (press shift+ 😉
  • Place computer symbol in the center of the circle
  • Group it (Ctrl+g)

Convert text in editable vector object: –

  • Type the text
  • Select it with selection tool (v)
  • Type >create outline (Ctrl+shift+o)
  • Now you can fill gradient color, you can edit the text into different shape using direct selection tool.

To link the text box: –

  • Click on the text tool
  • Click and drag on the artboard
  • Type the text
  • Again, click on the text tool and drag on the artboard (empty text block)
  • Select both
  • Type >Threaded text >Create

To wrap the text: –

  • Click on the text tool
  • Click and drag on the artboard
  • Type the text
  • Draw an object, Overlap on it
  • Object > Text wrap >Make
  •  Make sure that the following conditions are true for the type you want to wrap:
  • It is area type (typed in a box).
  • It is in the same layer as the wrap object.
  • It is located directly under the wrap object in the layer’s hierarchy.
  • If the layer contains multiple type objects, move any that you don’t want to wrap around the wrap object either into another layer or above the wrap object.

To unwrap the text: –

  • Select the wrapped object
  • Object >Text wrap>Release

To find /change the text: –

  • To find and change text, go to Edit > Find and Replace.
  • Pay attention to the options in the dialog box.
  • Find and Replace can be used for more than word substitution. …
  • Click Find and the first instance will be selected in the project.

Replace the text: –

  • Type the text in find what text box
  • Type the text replace text in change to text box
  • E.g. find what— is
  • Change to —was
  • (is) text will be replace by (was) text
  • Click on (change) or (change all) button

Change case: –

  • Select the text with text tool
  • Type >change case
  • Click on lower case—-(all the text will be in Small letter)
  • Title case—————- (Starting text of each word will be in capital)
  • Upper case ————– (all the text will be in capital)

Image inside the text: –

  • Place an image
  • Type the text  (font- Impact)
  • Copy the text, Select both
  • Object >clipping mask >make (Ctrl+7)
  • Edit >paste in front (Ctrl+F)
  • (Fill—None Stroke— Black)

Text design: –

  • Draw straight line
  • Click ok Effect >Distort & Transform > Zig Zag
  • Size: 2pt; Ridges per segment: 4; click on smooth, click on ok
  • Click on object > Expand Appearance
  • Duplicate it by pressing alt key and drag it down
  • Select both curve line
  • Click on object > Blend > Make
  • Type the Required text, Overlap on to the pattern
  • Select both
  • Object >clipping mask >make (Ctrl+7)
