Pathfinder: –

Pathfinder command lets you add Subtract Intersect, Trim, etc an object

  • Window >Path finder (Shift+F9)
  • Appears a pathfinder palette

Add

Traces the outline of all objects as if they were a single, merged object. The resulting shape takes on the paint attributes of the top object.

Subtract (Minus Front)

Subtracts the frontmost objects from the back most object. You can use this command to delete areas of an illustration by adjusting the stacking order.

Intersect

Traces the outline of the region overlapped by all the objects.

Exclude

Traces all nonoverlapping areas of the objects, and makes overlapping areas transparent. Where an even number of objects overlap, the overlap becomes transparent. Where an odd number of objects overlap, the overlap becomes filled.

Divide

Separates a piece of artwork into its component-filled faces (a face is an area undivided by a line segment).

When you use the Divide button in the Pathfinder panel, you can use the Direct Selection or Group Selection tool to manipulate the resulting faces independently of each other. You can also choose to delete or preserve unfilled objects when applying the Divide command.

Trim

Removes the part of a filled object that is hidden. Removes any strokes and doesn’t merge objects of the same color.

Merge

Removes the part of a filled object that is hidden. Removes any strokes and merges any adjoining or overlapping objects filled with the same color.

Crop

Divides artwork into its component-filled faces, and then deletes all the parts of the artwork that fall outside the boundary of the topmost object. It also removes any strokes.

Outline

Divides an object into its component line segments, or edges. This command is useful for preparing artwork that needs a trap for overprinting objects. See Create a trap.

Note: When you use the Outline button in the Pathfinder panel, you can use the Direct Selection or Group Selection tool to manipulate each edge independently. You can also choose to delete or preserve unfilled objects when applying the Outline command.

Clipping Masks

A clipping mask is an object whose shape masks other artwork so that only areas that lie within the shape are visible

 3D objects

Create a 3D object by extruding

Adobe Illustrator-3D object.jpg

Extruding extends a 2D object along the object’s z-axis to add depth to the object. For example, if you extrude a 2D ellipse, it becomes a cylinder.

  • Select the object.
  • Choose Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel.
  • Click More Options to view the complete list of options, or Fewer Options to hide the extra options.
  • Select Preview to preview the effect in the document window.

Specify options:

  • Position: Off Asix Front.
  • Extrude & Bevel: Define Depth.
  • Cap: Turn on
  • Surface: Plastic Shading.
  • Maps artwork onto the surfaces of a 3D object.
  • Click OK.

Create a 3D object by revolving

Adobe Illustrator-3D Revolving.jpg

  • Revolving sweeps a path or profile in a circular direction around the global y-axis (revolve axis) to create a 3D object.
  • Select the object.
  • (Revolving a filled path with no stroke is much faster than revolving a stroked path.)
  • Choose Effect > 3D > Revolve.
  • Select Preview to preview the effect in the document window.
  • Sets how the object is rotated and the perspective from which you view it.
  • Position: Off Asix Front.
  • Revolve: Define Depth.
  • Cap: Turn on
  • Surface: Plastic Shading.
  • Maps artwork onto the surfaces of a 3D object.
  • Click OK.

Blend objects

You can blend objects to create and distribute shapes evenly between two objects. You can also blend between two open paths to create a smooth transition between objects, or you can combine blends of colors and objects to create color transitions in the shape of a particular object.

Create a blend with the Blend tool

  • Select the Blend tool.
  • To blend in sequential order with no rotation, click anywhere on each object, but avoid anchor points.
  • To blend to a specific anchor point on an object, click the anchor point with the Blend tool. When the pointer is over an anchor point, the pointer changes from a white square to transparent with a black dot in its center.
  • To blend open paths, select an endpoint on each path.
  • When you are finished adding objects to the blend, click the Blend tool again.

Create a blend with the Make Blend command

  • Select the objects you want to blend.
  • Choose Object > Blend > Make.
  • By default, Illustrator calculates the optimum number of steps to create a smooth color transition.

Path Blend: –

  • Draw two paths, one Solid line blue another Dashed line red
  • Note: – To make dash line — (Mark on) On the dash line stroke
  • Select both lines
  • Object >Blend >Make(Ctrl+Alt+B)

To make a gradient filled object: –

  • Draw a line (stroke color red)
  • Duplicate it (Press shift +alt key and drag downwards)
  • Change the color of second-line eg yellow
  • Again duplicate it and change the color eg blue
  • Select all

Live Corners

You can select one or more corner anchor points in a simple path, or multiple anchor points across several paths in your artwork. When selected, a Live Corners widget appears next to each corner point. Dragging a widget causes the corner point to change shape, into one of three available corner types. The three available corner types are Round, Inverted Round, and Chamfer.

To access the corner settings:

  • Double-click the Live Corners widget, or,
  • Select the corner, and click the Corners link in the Control Panel.

Shaper Tool

The Shaper tool helps you create complex and beautiful designs by drawing, stacking and placing shapes together, and then simply combining, merging, deleting, or moving them. Use simple, visually-intuitive gestures to perform operations that previously may have taken multiple actions to achieve.

Use the Shaper tool to turn natural gestures into vector shapes. Use a mouse or the ease of a touch device to create polygons, rectangles, or circles. The shapes drawn are live shapes. This feature is enabled in the traditional workspaces, the specialized Touch workspace, and on your mobile with Illustrator Draw.
